The answer key is at the bottom of this page. How did you do? If you got 8-10 correct, then you are a trivia master … if you got 5-7 right, then you are pretty smart … any less, then you and I are in the same boat still learning.

Wouldn’t it be nice to always be right?  The Bible can make that claim.  It is always right … never wrong. But get this … some people say that it is just a great work of literature like Robinson Crusoe, the Works of Shakespeare, or Lord of the Rings.  Other people say that there are other religious books that are just as good as the Bible, so it doesn’t matter which one we read and follow.  What do you think … Does it really matter?  Is there a difference?

That’s what we are going to talk about in this lesson.  While we don’t have time to discuss all the religious writings of the world right now, I would like to show you several reasons why you and I can fully trust the Bible as the Word of God.

1

The Bible claims to be God’s Word more than 2500 times.  Phrases like, “God said,” or “The word of the Lord” are found 700 times in just the first five books of the Bible … Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

Jesus also clearly taught that the Bible was God’s Word.  He made over 400 references to the Old Testament as truth and authority.  He used Old Testament Scriptures when Satan tempted Him in the wilderness. He referred back to the Old Testament when He talked about the Creation of the world, the world-wide Flood of Noah’s day, and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

These claims are either truth or lies.  I go with truth but let’s keep going to look at more evidence.

2

The Bible cannot be destroyed.  In Matthew 24:35, Jesus makes this promise … Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.  And down through history, many people have tried to destroy the Bible … but ALL attempts have failed.  In fact, an important French man named Voltaire said that during his time men were becoming so wise in their own way of thinking that the Bible would soon be a forgotten book.  He also said that in the future the Bible would only be found in museums.

However, just 25 years after Voltaire’s death the same printing presses that he used to print ungodly materials were now being used to print BIBLES!  And, instead of only being found in museums, every year the Bible is the world’s best seller of all books printed. It is documented that over 100 million Bibles are sold or distributed world-wide every year in more language translations than any other book.  Wow!

3

The Bible has one main theme.  The Bible was written over a period of 1600 years … by 40 different men … from many different backgrounds (kings, fishermen, doctor, lawyer, farmer, shepherd) … in 3 different languages YET it carries the same theme throughout the whole book.  That theme is God’s plan for saving mankind by salvation through His Son Jesus.

Just imagine 40 different men living at different times and from different backgrounds all working together to write about spiritual things with total agreement … impossible apart from God!  But the reason that the Bible does this is because God is the actual Author.  God guided what these men wrote so that the finished product is just what He wanted … the truth of who He is and what that means for us.

4

The Bible is true and accurate.  Some people say that the Bible may have been accurate when it was first written long ago, but since then many mistakes have been made as additional copies were made.  That isn’t true.  Great care was taken as copies were made.  When compared with these earliest writings, the Bible we have today is still true and accurate!

5

The Bible is historically accurate.  The Bible gives many details about history and God’s dealings with man.  Many scholars have made fun of the historical details found in the Bible. But over and over again, archeology (which is the study of things that people made, used, and left behind) has proven the Bible to be true and accurate.  No archeological find has ever proven the Bible to be wrong.

As a matter of fact, Sir Walter Ramsey, one of the world’s most famous archeologists, set out to prove that the Bible was wrong.  As Sir Ramsey investigated the Bible and existing historical evidence, he did find strong evidence that convinced him to …. become a Christian!!  He also said that Luke (who was the writer of the Bible books Acts and Luke) was an historian of the highest degree.  The Bible is historically accurate!

6

The Bible is scientifically accurate.  The Bible does not claim to be a science textbook, but it is scientifically accurate.  True science is based on observing the world around us.  Since God made everything and He holds all things together, Who better to tell us of its wonders?  In Leviticus 17:11-14 the Bible says that the “life of the body” is in the blood.  Before science proved this, people would remove significant amounts of blood from a person in order to heal them from their sickness.

In fact, doctors removed so much blood from George Washington that he died from the loss of blood.  Among other things, the Bible also talks about the stars (Genesis 22:17; Jeremiah 31:35; Jeremiah 33:22; I Corinthians 15:41), the water cycle (Ecclesiastes 1:7; Isaiah 55:10), and sea currents (Psalm 8:8).  The Bible is scientifically accurate!

7

The Bible has greatly influenced the world.  Throughout history, the Bible has influenced art and literature.  Most of our laws are based on principles found in the Bible.  The Bible holds women in high regard contrary to many other religions.  The influence of the Bible has resulted in the foundation of countless hospitals, schools, and orphanages around the world.   The greatest proof of the influence of God’s Word can be seen in the lives of people who live by its authority and principles.  The Bible has greatly influenced the world.  Has it influenced you?

8

The Bible accurately predicts the future.  One of the most powerful proofs of the Bible being true is that it accurately predicts the future.  Each January people make predictions for the coming year.  Some of their predictions come true, but many don’t.  Every prediction that the Bible has made has either come true or will come true.  This is seen most clearly in regard to Jesus.  There were 48 major predictions (also called prophecies) made about Jesus’ birth and life here on earth … prophecies made hundreds of years before He was born.  All of these prophecies came true. The chance of this happening is astronomical … mathematically speaking the odds are 10 to the 157th power.  Impossible apart from God!

Let me explain that.  IF only 8 of those 48 prophecies were fulfilled, then the odds would be 10 to the 17th power.  That would be like marking a silver dollar coin with a black mark and throwing it in with enough coins to cover the whole state of Texas two feet deep.  Then blindfold a friend and have him pick that marked silver dollar out of all those coins.  The odds that he would pick up the marked one would be 10 to the 17th power … basically impossible!  Yet ALL 48 of the prophecies made about Jesus came true …. although though the odds were even greater at 10 to the 157th’ power!

The Bible also tells us what is going to happen in our future.  We can trust that these things too will be true.

As you can see, the Bible is unlike any other book … religious or otherwise.  The Bible is God’s Word and can be trusted! It is always right.  No other book can claim that.  Have you started reading it for yourself? Included with this lesson is a simple Bible reading plan … following it will help give you the knowledge you need about God’s Word and how God can use it to change your life …

why don’t you start reading your Bible today?!
